Namibia stretches 1000 miles from the Orange River in the south to Ovamboland bordering Angola in the north.

Between lies the awe inspiring Namib Desert and a semi-arid wilderness found nowhere else in Southern Africa. The largest sand dunes in the world are found at Sossusvlei and throughout the region there are fascinating desert adaptations of both flora and fauna. It is a truly different experience. The NamibRand Nature reserve adjoining the Namib Naukluft National Park is one of the best places to experience the varied desert landscape. Here, at Wolwedans Dune Lodge, you can drive or balloon over the stunning landscape and visit the unique Sossusvlei. Flying north along the barren Skeleton Coast over seal sanctuaries and shipwrecks to Damaraland is spectacular. This northern area presents endless vistas across stark plains, ancient valleys and hills that harbour leopard, black rhino, lion, elephant, onyx and springbok. In the far north lies the Etosha National Park where in the adjoining reserves, night drives and bush walks are also available.

As in South Africa, self-drive is possible though the distances are vast and with the exception of the main routes all roads are gravel and dirt. Good 4×4 camping “rigs” are available for hire and are cost effective and a semi adventurous way to see the country and its National Parks.  However, unless you have plenty of time on your hands, the best way to see this country is to fly in a light aircraft.

SEASONS SUMMER – October to April Hot in the Namib with rainstorms. This is a low rainfall area. WINTER – May to September Cool in the evenings and warm in the day. The Skeleton Coast can often be foggy.
