Days 2-5 On arrival you will be met and assisted onto your connecting flight to Mfuwe about an hours flight to the north west. Here you will be met and transferred to Tena Tena, to stay for four nights in a tented cottage. This remote and highly personalised camp lies within the National Park, shaded by mahogany trees on a wide bend of the Luangwa River. The surrounding ox bow lagoons, woodland and plains host huge concentrations of game, including buffalo, leopard, lion, giraffe and over four hundred species of birds. Enjoy fascinating walking safaris led by experienced naturalists, thrilling game drives and night excursions. Terms: Fully inclusive with all game activities. South Luangwa National Park The South Luangwa National Park covers 9050km² and the concentration of game around the river is one of the highest in Africa. The area is covered by riverine forest, oxbow lakes, combretum and bush willow with portions of Savannah. Walking safaris were pioneered in this park and are still one of the best ways of experiencing the African wilderness. The park has 60 animal species and 400 different bird species. This is one of the premier wilderness areas in Africa, famed for its seclusion and natural beauty. The park is also well-known for large herds of elephants: some herds numbering up to 70. Buffalo and various antelope species are prolific throughout the park. In the river and adjoining pools, hippos and crocodiles can be seen in great numbers. The zebras peculiar to Luangwa can be seen everywhere: their stripes are evenly spaced as opposed to broad light stripes with a faint stripe in-between. Other special features of the park are Thornicroft's Giraffe, 14 different antelope species, lots of leopards, 47 migrating bird species from Europe and Russia. |
Days 6-8 Transfer to the airstrip and fly in a light aircraft to the Lower Zambezi National Park to stay at Sausage Tree Camp for the next three nights. Discreetly positioned along the banks of the Zambezi River and shaded by sausage and mahogany trees, six luxury Bedouin-style white canvas tents each offer private open-air bathrooms, running hot and cold water and a personal butler! Game viewing in this pristine area is superb and elephant, buffalo, hippo and other game are regularly seen in and around the camp! Choose from day and night game drives, canoe trips, boating safaris and angling for tiger fish. Terms: Fully inclusive with all game activities. Lower Zambezi National Park The Lower Zambezi National Park is 4092 square kilometers in area with 120 kms of Zambezi River frontage. Its distinguishing features are the rugged escarpment to the north, the river itself, and its numerous islands, lagoons and floodplains which attract most of the wildlife. There are approximately 50 mammal species and 400 bird species which thrive in the Park, as well as a wide variety of spectacular trees, grasses and flowers. With over 300 bird species, lion, leopard, vast herds of elephant and buffalo, prolific hippo, gigantic baobab trees and magnificent stands of acacia the Lower Zambezi remains one of Africa magical wilderness destinations. |
