Part of the charm of this country is that it is still relatively undiscovered by the large tour operators. This is real Africa where the Luangwa Valley, Zambezi and Kafue National Parks have some of the finest game in Africa.

In the South on the banks of the Zambezi River close to Victoria Falls the luxury lodges Tongabezi and River Club can be found.

The lodges offer cottage and tented accommodation, canoe trips on the upper reaches of the Zambezi, game-drives, fishing and river rafting below the Falls.

The Kafue National Park, Zambia's largest, is perhaps best seen on a mobile safari with Chilongozi Expeditions or based at Lunga Cabins, one of the few permanent lodges in the Park. In addition, from June to September, mobile and tented safaris are available to the spectacular Busanga Plains, a wilderness area in the north of the Park.

In the Lower Zambezi National Park the riverside Sausage Tree Camp is quintessential Africa. This area has excellent game and varied landscapes and is best reached by boat and floatplane.

Perhaps the most special is the South Luangwa valley in the Northeast. Here, there are some of Africa's most talented guides and game scouts conducting walking safaris in this African Eden. The sheer volume and diversity of game around the oxbow lakes during the season are what Africa must have been like over 150 years ago. Robin Pope Safaris camp, Tena Tena, and the all-season Kapani and Tafica are just three of an excellent variety of permanent and seasonal camps in the valley.

Transfers are usually by light aircraft with the exception of those lodges near Victoria Falls which can be reached by vehicle.

SUMMER - October to March
