For travellers seeking new adventures, these safaris give the opportunity to experience the Okavango wilderness close up; travelling by foot and mokoro (local dug out canoe) and camping out on remote islands. The safaris fit in with the rise and fall of the annual flood and operate every three days from early May to the end of October. The trail starts and ends at the Xigera airstrip, right in the heart of the Okavango Delta. Here, soon after landing, you meet up with your senior guide and BaYei polers. After a short drive to the starting point and a safety talk, you climb into the mokoros and set off into the wilderness. Some of the mokoros carry the camping equipment, drinks and food while others carry the guests and their personal luggage so the group is totally self contained and can operate at its own pace and needs. The camp is set up and taken down every day by the paddlers, who also cook all the meals on a campfire. The days start with a bush walk and there are additional stops along the way to walk and explore for any reason, depending on what is happening at that moment. Walking and game tracking can, however, lead to encounters with WILD ANIMALS, which are potentially dangerous. Walking is, therefore, at your own risk. Please note, however, that walking at all times will be in the company of a licensed guide. The trails are a unique opportunity to experience and appreciate this stunning wetland wilderness environment.
