Built in 1876, Tyrconnell takes you back through one of the most fascinating periods of Australia’s history. Hidden in rugged bush country west of Cairns, Tyrconnell was at the centre of the Hodgkinson goldfield and its most famous mine. The beautifully restored mine is testimony to those early pioneers and its owners, Andrew Bell and Cate Harley, have made it their home. Andrew’s family owned and worked the mine until the late 1990s and his experience, combined with Cate’s expertise in restoration, make this a unique insight into Australia’s early years of settlement. Whether you chose to join Andrew as he takes you through the history of those early pioneering days, or decide to indulge yourself in the prolific birdlife that the area has to offer, Tyrconnell Mine makes for a unique and truly authentic bush experience.
