Three Tree Hill Lodge is situated close to Spioenkop game reserve and to the battlefield. Built on a hillside with fine views, the lodge overlooks the Spioenkop Game Reserve where white rhino, giraffe, zebra, eland, kudu and numerous smaller antelope can be seen. 270 bird species have also been recorded in the area. The main living area has an open-plan design, with four sets of large double doors leading onto the veranda. The result is a flowing space, where you can relax on a comfy chair, read in the afternoon sun and enjoy convivial dinners. The twin and double en-suite bedrooms all have roof fans, heaters, down duvets and the finest linen sheets and are decorated in pleasant neutral colours. All have wonderful views and a great feeling of space. There is a good swimming pool and wooden viewing deck overlooking the valley. The principle activity is full day guided battlefield tours of Spioenkop conducted by in house guides Andrew Ardington and Christi Vogel. Also available are visits to the sites of Churchill's Capture and the battles of Colenso, Tugela heights, Talana, Dundee, Elandslaagte, Wagon Hill, Ladysmith and Vaalkrans. Other activities include excellent hiking in the Drakensberg Mountains, golf, riding in game reserves, mountains hiking, fishing, painting, local cultural tours, game drives in open 4x4 and excellent bird watching.
