Thala Beach Lodge is located on the spectacular coastal road between Cairns and Port Douglas. Set in 145 acres of lush vegetation, very much like the Daintree Rainforest itself and yet bordering the Coral Sea, Thala beach is perhaps the epitome of the region – where the Reef meets the Rainforest!
Thala’s bungalow accommodation blends with the surrounds beautifully, providing a luxurious sense of privacy. While the Eucalypt bungalows capture the spirit of the forest, and the Coral Sea bungalows offer sea views, all have air-conditioning and fans, a private en suite bathroom, CD & DVD player and a private veranda. The resort’s Sandpiper suite is located on a headland overlooking Thala’s two secluded beaches and offers a private veranda, lunge and spacious bedroom.
Thala’s facilities include a Wellness Spa, two free from swimming pools and a cocktail bar. Osprey’s Restaurant enjoys magnificent views along the coast and you are bound to enjoy the chef’s tropically inspired cuisine. Borrow the sea-kayaks for some coastal exploring, join an escorted nature walk, attend a cooking demonstration or an evening talk by a local naturalist and when you feel like stepping out there are transfers to/from Port Douglas.

Thala is Eco certified and has been awarded the highest Ecotourism accreditation for maximising informative & meaningful experiences, whilst enhancing the local environment. In the early 1970’s when Rob & Oonagh Prettejohn purchased the 145 acre Peninsula it had only 45 acres of indigenous forest. The balance had been cleared and was an unsustainable sugar cane plantation. Natural Area Focus - the private beachfront and five other habitat zones included within the peninsular are now as nature intended them it to be. The Lodge offers wildlife specialists who are on hand to guide and amaze their guests in their forests, the beaches or along their rocky headland. Working with Local Communities - Recognising the importance of the spirit of our local indigenous communities Thala invites the elders of the KuKu – Yalanji community to take guests through the journey of their culture. Thala is always grateful to the KuKu-Yalanji elders for their eager sharing of their ancient knowledge.
Guests at Eco lodges like Thala leave a soft print in an environmental journey towards a better world: They take away memories and understanding that will inspire them and others for years to come.
