Tea Trails, Hatton, nr Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka

Recommended

Tea Trails is located in central Sri Lanka, in the heart of the Tea Country.  The nearest major town is Hatton, which is about fifteen minutes away by car.  The Tea Country is the most scenic part of Sri Lanka with breathtaking views of mountain ranges and ravines, of winding roads and waterfalls.

Here in solitude, at an altitude of 4,000 feet, lie Tea Trails' 4 classic colonial bungalows, built for British tea estate managers in the days of the Raj.  These delightful historic houses have been restored to offer guests the unique experience of life on a working tea estate.

The bungalows, built between 1888 and 1925 and scattered in two neighbouring valleys, each provide accommodation of 4 to 6 luxurious Master Suites, Garden Suites and Luxury Rooms, which can be booked individually or collectively.  The bungalows are all different in size and style but each comes with its own manager, chef, butler and houseboys.  In total, there are twenty elegant and charming rooms and suites decorated in a unique style, ranging from neo-colonial to classic English: Master Suites with a separate living room, Garden Suites with verandahs to private gardens and Luxury Rooms of great character.  All have ensuite bathrooms of exquisite English elegance for a cool shower or a warm tropical flower bath.

Fine cuisine is provided throughout whether at a formal dinner or a simple alfresco lunch.  Menus include: tea infused dishes, Sri Lankan classics, seafood grills, fresh tropical fruit, rich chocolate cakes and vegetables from organic plots around the estate.  Wines and spirits are included and afternoon tea on the lawn is a must.

The Bungalows all have ample space in which to relax and unwind.  Each also has its own swimming pool and facilities for tennis, croquet and a range of pampering in-room spa treatments.  For the more active, tours of the tea estates and visits to tea factories can be arranged.   Also available are jungle and mountain treks, bird watching expeditions, boating, biking, golf, kayaking and white water rafting.  The treks are well organized with maps, guides and marked trails taking guests through some of the most beautiful and scenic country in the island.
