 Selous Game Reserve
At about twice the size of Denmark, the Selous Game Reserve is the second largest wildlife reserve on earth and a World Heritage Site (one of only six in Africa).  The Reserve has a varied terrain of rolling savannah woodland, grassland plains, rocky outcrops and dense forest patches, and is second only to the Serengeti in its concentration of wildlife.  As well as elephant, there are hippo, wildebeest, hartebeest, sable, kudu, eland, lion, leopard and good opportunities to see wild dog.  Walking safaris in the company of an armed guard are a feature of the Reserve and river safaris amongst the crocodiles and hippos are highly recommended.

Zanzibar
Zanzibar is an archipelago made up of Zanzibar and Pemba Islands, and several islets. It is located in the Indian Ocean, about 25 miles from the Tanzanian coast, and 60 miles south of the equator. Zanzibar Island (known locally as Unguja but as Zanzibar internationally) is 60 miles long and 20 miles wide, occupying a total area of approximately 650 square miles. This fascinating island, steeped in history, is a short flight from Dar es Salaam or Mombasa. It is surrounded by beautiful sandy beaches, clear water and coral reefs close inshore. Its capital is Stone Town - said to be the only functioning ancient town in East Africa. This historic town is a wonderful mix of African and Arabic culture, with fascinating markets in narrow winding streets where the aroma of spices fills the air. The old slave quarters, the spice plantations and the Josine Forest are interesting places to visit.

Day 9

  • The Selous, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater.
  • Combination safaris as above with the Swahili coast, Mauritius or the Seychelles.

This is a suggested itinerary only and is entirely flexible. Arrangements can be tailored to your exact requirements.
