Katavi National Park Katavi National Park is the remotest and least known of the Tanzania parks. A wonderful place where you will never see another game vehicle, endless plains and mile upon mile of ground to cover whilst looking for game. The huge herds of buffalo and hundreds of hippo and crocodile make this a truly spectacular destination. |
Day 5 This morning you will be tranferred to the airstrip for the light aircraft transfer to the Mahale Mountains National Park. On arrival at the airstrip you will be met and assisted to the huge wooden dhow for the transfer along Lake Tanganyika to stay at Greystoke Mahale for the next 4 nights. Terms: Full board
Mahale Mountains National Park This national park on the shores of Lake Tanganyika is extremely remote and difficult to access, but well worth the visit. The park is famous for its chimpanzees, and scientists, mainly from Japan, have been studying the primates for 20 years, during which time one group has been habituated to human contact. The highest peak in the park, at 2460m, ensures that moist air blowing in from the lake condenses there and falls as rain. This rain supports extensive montane forests, grassland and alpine bamboo. Numerous valleys intersect the mountains, and some of these have permanent streams which flow into the lake. |
Day 9 This afternoon you will be transferred to the airstrip by boat and then fly to Arusha. On arrival in Arusha you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro for the overnight flight to London Heathrow via Amsterdam. Suggested Combinations - The Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti National Park.
- The Selous.
- Zanzibar and Coast.
