Tafika Camp, South Luangwa, Zambia

Highly Recommended

'Tafika!' is the local vernacular for 'We have arrived!', usually expressed after arriving at a desirable location after a long journey. Tafika Camp is superbly situated in the shade of huge leadwood trees with breathtaking views up and down the Luangwa River.

Tafika Camp - Luangwa at high water

This is an exceptional wildlife area and offers quick, easy access to both the Nsefu sector and the Park on the opposite (west) bank.  One of the main advantages of this area is that 4x4 game viewing is undertaken both in the National Park and outside it in conservation areas where game drives can continue after dark.

The camp consists of five comfortable grass and pole chalets.  Being small, the camp offers highly personalized, friendly service, and game viewing activities are very flexible.

Consider combining Tafika Camp with nearby Chikoko for walking safaris or Mwaleshi Camp in North Luangwa National Park. Both are seasonal rustic camps in very wild areas offering first class guiding and walking. Open May to October annually.

No. of BedroomsFive comfortable grass and pole chalets all equipped with en-suite toilet and open-air shower (giving a whole new meaning to being under the stars!).
Seasonal openingTafika is open from 1st May to 30th November and from 10th February to 10th April.
Activities

During the dry season, walks and game drives are on offer, as well as the famous Luangwa night drive.  All safaris are led by very experienced guides.  The camp has recently started offering two exciting new activities in the Luangwa: microlighting and river safaris.

Microlighting is usually available and will take the form of a 15-20 minute flight over wild, undeveloped country.  To experience the bush as a Bateleur eagle does is an experience never to be forgotten!

River safaris (in semi-rigid inflatable dinghy and canoes) are restricted to the reasonably fit, adventurous customer and are offered only at high water between between 10th February and 10th April.
