The Garden Route This is a narrow coastal belt running from Mossel Bay in the west to Port Elizabeth in the east and containing some of South Africa's finest beaches and fynbos coastline . The area is also known for its indigenous forests, freshwater lakes, wetlands, hidden coves and long beaches. You can traverse mountains, explore caves, bike through forests, encounter white sharks and giant Southern Right Whales, taste wines and boat down the rivers and lakes of South Africa's most famous Garden. The mountains that range along the Garden Route's northern border beckon with a series of spectacular passes that cut through to the Afrikaans hinterland of the Klein Karoo desert providing a stark contrast to the lush coast.
