Skeleton Coast Camp, Khumib River, Namibia

Highly Recommended

Skeleton Coast Camp is a luxury tented camp built up on wooden decks on an island in the dry Khumib riverbed on Namibia's Skeleton Coast.  This is one of our planet's most beautiful places.  Over much of the past decade, access to this private area within the National Park has been restricted.  Now, close on 660,000 acres of the National Park has been set aside as an exclusive safari experience for those who want to really get away!  It is wild, desolate and uninhabited - and stunningly beautiful.

This is a highly recommended camp with many fascinating and different aspects to its activities - a base for a safari that will rival anything in Africa for those who enjoy the excitement of wild and remote places.

No. of BedroomsSkeleton Coast Camp sleeps only 10 guests in spacious classic safari tents that are raised on decks to limit the impact on the micro flora and fauna on the soil surface.  Each tent has an en suite bathroom with solar heating and lights, as well as a private deck extending from the front of the tent.
ActivitiesVisit the clay castles of the Hoarusib, Rocky Point, coastal shipwrecks, seal colonies and the roaring dunes.
On safari, take an in-depth look at the specially adapted reptiles, insects and plants that have struggled to survive in this inhospitable place.  Generally picnic, bush or beach lunches are prepared, before returning to the camp at sunset in time for a hot shower, drinks and dinner.
Night walks on the plains and slip faces of the dunes are available allowing the opportunity to view the nocturnal species.
Game drives include viewing of the desert-adapted springbok, desert elephant, cape fur seals, brown hyena, desert jackal, ostrich and rare cheetah.
Visit Himba tribe settlements.
