It is difficult to think of any eventuality that is not covered by our scheme. Cover even extends to include Airline tickets up to £1,000 and Government Travel Restrictions, both unique features of this scheme.

MEDICAL EMERGENCIES
For our clients' peace of mind a full 24-hour Medical Emergency Service is provided by Specialty Assistance. Full details are shown on each certificate, together with contact procedures. The service they provide varies according to circumstances, the following give some idea of the wide facilities they can make available:

Medical Assistance
In the event of emergency involving injury or illness, Specialty Assistance have immediate access to a medical team of consultants and doctors in every field of medicine available to make direct contact with hospital/clinic or treating doctor to obtain diagnosis and prognosis and offer advice and guidance for the well-being of the patient.
Air Ambulance and Repatriation
If it is medically necessary and considered in the interest of the patient to be repatriated or transported to another area to obtain proper medical care, then Specialty Assistance are readily able to arrange an air ambulance. Specialty Assistance take advantage of all known ambulance services thus affording the best service where possible for each individual case.
Medical Escorts
As and when medically necessary, doctors or fully qualified nurses with medical equipment, are available to support a patient travelling by air or road ambulance or scheduled and chartered aircraft.
Road Ambulances and Return Home
In the Western World modern long range ambulances may be utilized, fully equipped with such medical attendance as necessary for overland transit, including transport from port or airport of arrival, to home or nearest hospital to patient's home recommended by patient's own doctor.
Long Haul Repatriation
Specialty Assistance operate in liaison with many national airlines worldwide where with close co-operation, on schedule and charter flights, special facilities for comfort of passengers, including stretcher cases, are provided for the safe return journey home. For inter-continental repatriation this is usually the more comfortable and speedy means of returning home.

The full terms and conditions are set out on the Certificate that will be issued to you when you have paid the premium and it is those terms and conditions that apply.  If there is anything you do not understand then please ask for an explanation. Your Travel Agent, Tour Operator, or Campbell Irvine Ltd (the Insurance Brokers who arrange this scheme), will be pleased to assist you.

We want to provide you with the widest cover we can. However all Insurances are subject to certain terms and conditions.  In this leaflet we have tried to give a broad overview of our package, its benefits and its restrictions.  In fairness to our Insurers we must ask you to tell us if there is anything about your circumstances that warrants special consideration.  We will endeavour to cater for any unusual requests, although it may mean an adjustment to the premium or the terms and conditions of cover.
Material Facts
All Material Facts must be disclosed as failure to do so may affect your rights under this Insurance. In particular you should disclose:
  • any existing medical condition that may require treatment during a period of overseas travel, or was being treated or investigated prior to departure.
  • activities that could be considered hazardous,
  • your occupation if it is a business trip and increases the risk,
  • the countries you are visiting if you are intending to travel against British FCO advice,
  • any circumstances which could reasonably be expected to give rise to a cancellation claim.

PLEASE NOTE: Cover is excluded for any Pre-existing Medical Condition from which you or any person upon whom travel depends, is suffering.  If in doubt call our medical helpline, in confidence on 0844 892 0954 .

  
EXCESSES
Each and every loss, each section or claim, each insured person is subject to an excess of £50, except in respect of Personal Liability, Personal Accident, Loss of deposit only, Travel Delay and temporary loss of baggage which are not subject to an excess.  Rented Accommodation and Legal Expenses are subject to an excess of £250.
  
COOLING OFF PERIOD
The insured person may cancel this policy within 14 days of the date of receipt of the policy document (new business) or the renewal date by writing to Campbell Irvine Ltd, Alma House, Alma Road, Reigate, Surrey, RH2 0AX during the 14 day cooling off period.  Any premium paid will be refunded in full so long as no period of travel has started.  If the insured person elects to cancel this policy after the first 14 days receipt of the policy documentation no premium refund will be made.
  
SUMMARY OF COVER AND CONDITIONS
Medical and Additional Expenses up to £5,000,000PRINCIPAL EXCLUSIONS

If you suffer illness (including compulsory quarantine) or accidental bodily injury or be hi-jacked during the period of insurance, the Insurer will pay:
i) normal and necessary receipted expenses of medical or surgical treatment incurred outside your country of residence including, emergency dental treatment to relieve pain and suffering (limited to £250), specialists or ophthalmic fees, hospital, nursing home and nursing attendance charges, physiotherapy, massage and manipulative treatment, surgical and medical requisites.
ii) reasonable additional accommodation and repatriation expenses incurred by an insured person and any one member of the family or party who has to remain or travel with the injured, ill or hi-jacked insured person, certified by a doctor to be strictly necessary on medical grounds, and approved by Specialty Assistance.
iii) the travel and reasonable accommodation expenses of one person to travel from their country of residence if their presence is strictly necessary on medical grounds.
iv) the cost of transporting the remains of an insured person to former place of residence up to £7,500 or funeral expenses incurred outside the insured person's country of residence up to £1,000.

The Insurer shall not be liable for any claim:
1.arising out of pregnancy or childbirth if subject to a gynaecological disorder or if expecting to give birth within 8 weeks of completeing a journey insured hereunder.
2. arising from a Pre-existing Medical Condition unless the Insurer has agreed to provide cover and you have paid the additional premium required.
3. for the cost of medical or surgical treatment of any kind received by the insured person later than 52 weeks from the date of the accident or commencement of the illness.
4. for medical expenses incurred in an insured person's country of residence.
5. not verified by a medical report.
6. for elective or cosmetic surgery unless deemed medically necessary and agreed by the Insurer.
7. for dental treatment to provide, replace or repair caps, crowns or bridges.
8. Any form of treatment or surgery which in the opinion of the doctor in attendence and Specialty Assistance can be reasonably delayed until the Insured person's return to their country of residence.

The Insurer shall not be liable for any claim arising out of:
1. mountaineering or climbing, pot-holing, sports tours, motorised competitions or races, travelling by motorcycle (other than in respect of motorcycles up to 125cc hired or borrowed during the Period of Insurance) or Winter Sports, unless the appropriate premium has been paid and shown on the Booking Invoice or Validation Certificate, excluding ski racing, ski jumping, ice hockey or the use of bobsleighs or skeletons. NOTE: not applicable to cancellation claims only. Any activity in the air other than as a passenger in a fully-licensed passenger-carrying-aircraft, or wilful exposure to needless danger (other than in an attempt to save human life).
2. Any form of stress, anxiety or allergy. Depression or any other mental or nervous disorder unless investigated and diagnosed by a Hospital Consultant.
3. Any consequence of any act of war or Terrorism caused by nuclear, chemical or biological attack.
4. The failure or fear of failure or inability of any equipment or any computer programme, whether or not owned by an insured person, to recognise or to interpret correctly or process any date as its true calender date, or to continue to function correctly beyond that date.
5. This Insurance does not cover (a) loss or destruction of or damage to any property whatsoever or any loss or expensewhatsoever, resulting or arising therefrom or any consequential loss (b) any legal liability of whatsoever nature, directly or indirectly caused by or contributed to by or arising from (i) ionising radiations or contamination by radioactivity from any nuclear fuel or from any nuclear waste from the combustion of nuclear fuel (ii) in the radioactive, toxic, explosive or other hazardous properties of any explosive nuclear assembly or nuclear component thereof.
6. This Insurance does not cover any form of consequential losses incurred such as telephone calls, facsimile transmissions, sustenance, airport parking and taxi fares. 

In Patient Benefit up to £200
In addition to the costs referred to above, the Insurer will also pay the sum of £10 compensation for each complete day, up to £200, that the insured person is confined to hospital outside their normal country of residence.
Personal Accident up to £25,000
If you suffer accidental bodily injury or death whilst travelling, a benefit is available for loss of an eye, a limb or permanent disablement of £25,000, or £10,000 for death.

For persons under 16 years of age, or aged 66 years or more, the Death Benefit is limited to £1,000.
  
Criminal Injuries up to £5,000PRINCIPAL EXCLUSIONS
If you are the victim of an unprovoked personal assault and as a result receive criminal injuries which necessitate you being admitted to hospital as an in-patient, then the In Patient Benefit mentioned above is increased to £100 per complete day, up to £5,000, that the insured person is confined to a hospital outside of their normal country of residence. This will be paid as straightforward compensation, provided there is written report to substantiate the injuries resulted from an unprovoked personal assault.Claims attributable to circumstances surrounding a business or commercial transaction.

Claims relating to participation in any form of criminal or illegal activity.

Any claim which cannot be verified by a police report.
  
Cancellation and Curtailment up to £3,000PRINCIPAL EXCLUSIONS
If you have to cancel your journey prior to departure as the result of serious illness or injury, death, quarantine, jury service, witness call, redundancy or major damage at your home or business, the Insurers will repay to you whatever amount is not refundable by the Travel Agent or Tour Operator with whom you booked prior to leaving the UK.

This insurance extends to include cancellation caused by any of the above reasons to your travelling companion if they have purchased insurance, a close relative, or a dependent business partner.

If your journey is curtailed whilst you are overseas of medical necessity then a proportionate refund will be made in respect of inclusive tour costs.

If you are travelling independently and cannot use your existing air tickets to return to the UK, the Insurers` will reimburse your additional travelling expenses and will also consider a claim for the value of unused air tickets for sections of the journey which you are unable to complete.

Our Claims Service can normally assist in having 'non-transferable' tickets amended, or up-graded, where return to the UK in an emergency situation is needed.
You are advised to take out insurance at the time of booking your travel arrangements since we will not consider claims relating to any circumstances manifesting themselves between the date of booking travel and the date of purchasing this Insurance.

Claims relating to circumstances that could reasonably have been anticipated at the time of booking to cause cancellation.

Claims as the result of a pregnancy known about at the time of booking, subject to gynaecological disorder or if expected to give birth within 8 weeks of completing the journey.

Curtailment claims as a result of participating in hazardous pursuits, or manual work, or aerial activities, as outlined under the Medical section.

Any claim relating to any wilfully self inflicted injury or illness, insanity, suicide or attempted suicide, sexually transmitted diseases, solvent abuse, the use of drugs (other than medically prescribed) and the effects of alcohol.

Where an Insured Person is not travelling on a pre-paid or fixed itinerary then additional travelling expenses shall be deemed to be those costs in excess of normal tourist class air fares.

Personal Liability up to £2,000,000PRINCIPAL EXCLUSIONS
If you are found to be legally liable for accidental bodily injury to or death or illness of any person or accidental damage to their property, then the Insurer will pay up to £2,000,000 including legal expenses to indemnify you against any award made by a court.

PLEASE NOTE: this does not include liability for motor vehicles, or motorcycles, where insurance should already be in force, arranged by the hire company or owners in accordance with local legislation.
Liability arising from the ownership, possession or use of any mechanically propelled vehicle, watercraft or aircraft, or your practice or profession or occupation or the supply of goods or services. Liability is also excluded in respect of the use or occupation of any building or land (other than use only of rented temporary accommodation).

We also have to exclude employer's liability or contractual liability and in addition we cannot provide cover relating to any form of commercial activity or work.

We cannot consider claims against you by members of your family or travelling companions.
Legal Expenses up to £15,000PRINCIPAL EXCLUSIONS
If you suffer personal injury or death during the period of insurance, the Insurer will appoint an agent and if necessary pay legal costs and expenses to pursue a claim for compensation and/or damages against a third party.

Costs incurred in pursuance of any claim against a travel agent tour operator, carrier, travelling companion or the Insurers, or an agent acting on their behalf.

Any claim where in the Insurer's opinion there is insufficient prospect of success in obtaining a reasonable settlement.

Claims for professional negligence.

The first £250 of any claim.

Legal Helpline
In the event of a potential claim there is an assistance line available from the UK.
Departure DelayPRINCIPAL EXCLUSIONS
In the event of the delayed departure or arrival of an aircraft, vessel or train, compensation of £25 is payable for the first 12 hours delay and £12.50 each subsequent 12 hours. Maximum amount claimable £100.

This section is extended to include cancellation up to £1,000 if the whole itinerary is abandoned before departure after a 12 hour delay.
Delay of transportation which is not subject to advance booking. Industrial action which had already commenced or was publicly declared prior to insurance being purchased.

NOTE: You must book in on time and suffer an actual delay before claims can be considered.
Hi-Jack of Aircraft up to £3,000PRINCIPAL EXCLUSIONS
If the aircraft in which you are travelling is hi-jacked then the Insurer will pay compensation of £100 for each complete day that you are in the control of the hi-jackers, up to £3,000.

In the event that you were injured and subsequently hospitalised then a further payment may be due to you under the Criminal Injuries Section of cover.

If the injury was very serious, then a benefit might also be payable under the Personal Accident Section.
Persons, such as celebrities or politicians, who have been individually selected as a hi-jack victim.
Failure of European Flight ConnectionsPRINCIPAL EXCLUSIONS
It is often the case that international travel involves a change of flights at a connecting European airport.

If you should miss your flight connection in Europe, as the result of either adverse weather, industrial action or mechanical breakdown affecting the connecting flight from the UK to Europe, compensation of up to £25 per day is available. Maximum amount payable £150.
Your itinerary must have been arranged within minimum connecting times for Europe as stated in the Official Airline Guide. This cover is applicable to the outward journey only.
  
Government Travel RestrictionsPRINCIPAL EXCLUSIONS
Travel plans can easily be marred by unexpected events in third world countries.

Cover is provided if your plans are disrupted during the week prior to departure, following an official warning by the British Government against travel, provided such warning is first issued within seven days of departure.

If war, invasion, riot or similar circumstance should affect your travel plans then up to £750 cover applies for cancellation, or up to £300 for additional expenses to make alternative arrangements or to travel on to your destination by another means.
This Insurance is only applicable to arrangements pre-booked by EU or Commonwealth passport holders before leaving the UK, and excludes insurances issued at a date when it was public knowledge that travel could be effected by war, invasion, riot or similar circumstance.

We cannot consider claims where the official warning against travel was issued more than seven days prior to departure.
  
Interruption of Public Transport Services in the UK up to £300PRINCIPAL EXCLUSIONS
If you are unable to reach your airport of international departure in the UK due to the interruption of scheduled public transport services because of either strike, mechanical breakdown or adverse weather or an accident to the motor vehicle in which you are travelling to point of departure and you miss your outward flight, the Insurer will reimburse you for additional travel and accommodation-only costs.Industrial action which had commenced, or was publicly declared, prior to this Insurance being purchased.
  
Baggage and Personal Effects up to £2,000PRINCIPAL EXCLUSIONS
If you suffer loss, damage or theft of your baggage, clothing or personal effects whilst travelling, the Insurer will pay up to £2,000.

Cover is provided on an indemnity basis, it is not 'new for old' or replacement.

PLEASE NOTE: there is a limit of £250 for any one article, pair or set and the value of disc collections shall be limited to £200.  There is a further limit of £350 in total for all valuable items, which includes jewellery and photographic equipment.
Damage to fragile articles, wear and tear, or electrical or mechanical derangement or malfunction.

Loss or damage to contact lenses, dentures, aids or appliances, cycles, wind or kite/surf-boards or mobile telephones. Claims for loss or damaged spectacles or articles for which no receipt or valuation is available are limited to £100.

Loss or theft not reported to the Police or other relevant authority within 24 hours of discovery and a written report obtained. Any claim where baggage is in the custody of a carrier, such as an airline, unless a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) is obtained at the time.

Valuables and Money are not insured if left in 'checked-in' luggage or unattended motor vehicles.

Claims for valuable items or money which were not in your personal custody and control at the time of the loss.
Money up to £500
Following a loss or theft of money - which is cash, bank or currency notes held for private purposes - we will pay up to £500 to reimburse you, including reasonable expenses incurred as a result of loss.
Tickets up to £1,000
If you lose air or travel tickets we will pay up to £1,000 to replace them.

Losses must be reported to the issuing agent in the UK and are limited pro-rata to the original purchase price.
Passport or Visas up to £250
If you lose your passport or visas we will pay up to £250 to replace them, including reasonable expenses.
  

PLEASE NOTE:  We would remind you that you must make adequate provision for security of your personal effects or money at all times. In the event of a loss you must obtain written confirmation from the local police or other relevant authority. Valuable items and money must be in your close personal custody and control and you should act in a responsible manner as if you are not insured.

Area 1:United Kingdom
Area 2:Europe
Europe means the continent of Europe West of the Ural Mountains, and also countries bordering the Mediterranean, plus Iceland, Jordan, Madeira, the Canary, Azores and Mediterranean Islands.
Area 3:Worldwide -  Excluding North America
North America means the USA and Canada
(a) For any period of cover purchased Area 4 can include a single day/night stop-over anywhere in the World for both outward and return travel.
(b) If the period of cover purchased is two months or more Area 3 can be extended to include a maximum of six days/nights anywhere in the World.
Area 4:Worldwide
UK Only:Whilst insurance is available for holidays in the UK the Medical and Additional Expenses and Additional Hospital Benefit sections of the policy shall be inoperative.

PLEASE NOTE: Cover is excluded for any Pre-existing Medical Condition from which you or any person upon whom travel depends, is suffering. If in doubt call our medical helpline, in confidence, on 0844 892 0954.
Family Rate:
For families travelling together a special premium applies based on 2.5 times the adult rate. This provides for two adults under 66 years and up to four children aged 18 years or less.
Child Reduction:
Premiums are reduced by half for children aged 18 years or less at date of payment of insurance premium, if travelling with an adult insured under this scheme.
Free Cover - Infants Under Two:
Infants aged under two years at departure can be included, free of charge, if travelling from departure point with a parent insured under this scheme - so long as you request that their name is included on your certificate or booking invoice.
Age 66 years or more:
For persons aged 66 years or more at date of payment of insurance premium, double the standard rates apply.  This insurance is not available to persons aged 75 years or more at the date of payment of insurance premium unless agreed by the Insurer.
Refund:
No refund of premium is possible once a certificate has been issued, other than our initial Money-Back Guarantee (see above).
Baggage & Money Discount:
20% Discount if you choose not to have baggage and money cover.  If you already have a household policy, this may cover your personal baggage and money while you are on holiday. If you check and find this is the case, then you may wish to exclude this from your Travel Insurance.

Cancellation cover starts immediately your application and payment is received or at the time of each individual trip being booked, whichever is the later. A Certificate of Insurance will be issued and sent to you which gives the full terms and conditions that apply. Please keep a separate note of the certificate number in case you lose the original.

The cover referred to in this document is subject to English law. Any enquiry or complaint should be addressed in the first instance to:

If you have been given a final response and you are still dissatisfied, you may refer your case to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS).  The FOS is an independent body that arbitrates on complaints about general insurance products.  It will only consider complaints after you have been provided with written confirmation that the insurer's internal complaints procedure has been exhausted.  The Ombudsman can be contacted at:

Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS)
AXA Insurance is covered by the FSCS, which is triggered when an authorised firm goes out of business. In this unlikely event you may be entitled to compensation from the scheme. Compensation under the scheme for:
Compulsory insurance is covered in full.
Non-compulsory insurance is protected in full for the first £2,000 and 90% of any amount above the threshold.

Please note that you have six months from the date of the Insurer's final response in which to refer your complaint to the Ombudsman.  Referral to the Ombudsman will not affect your right to take legal action.
