Rufiji River Camp is a well established tented safari camp situated in the north eastern part of the Selous Game Reserve, and not far from the Mtemere Airstrip. The camp has recently changed hands and has new management and is one to watch in the coming months. The camp occupies a lovely location, infact one of the best in the Selous, with panoramic views of the Rufiji River and hills beyond. There is a constant flow of animals coming down to drink at the river offering a permanent show to visitors of the camp. The water is usually full of hundreds of hippos as well as groups of crocodiles that laze in the sun on the sandbanks in the river.

All the tented cottages overlooking the river are being totally rebuilt in 2010. Each cottage on a raised wooden deck will have a large verandah as well as an en suite shower and loo under the huge makuti thatched roofs. The refurbished central mess area is laid out along the river bank from where there are good views of the river, sunsets and resident hippo pods. The style of the camp is simple rather than luxury, retaining a pleasant African bush camp feel. Electricity and hot water are powered by solar panels, and 240v circuits are available for recharging batteries. UHV-filtered drinking water is available throughout camp (including tents). A cool covered swimming pool is situated between the reception and mess area.
