Check Hotel/Lodge Availability Rose Gums Wilderness Retreat - Atherton, Queensland | Highly Recommended |
Local conservationists have created a very personal, simple & natural experience. The Atherton Tablelands, just 1.5 hours drive from Cairns, played host to Queensland’s early settlement and the region is full of historic reminders. Here, Jon and Peta Nott have created a delightful private retreat perched on the slopes of the Great Dividing Range, with spectacular views across the rainforest towards Queensland’s highest peaks. Set in 230 acres Rose Gums provides a sanctuary amongst the sights and sounds of the tropical rainforest. With the care of true conservationists, Jon and Peta have restored the native vegetation on the property and with it has come a profusion of wildlife.

Rose Gums is a place to enjoy the rainforest at your leisure, spend a quiet hour on the banks of Butcher’s Creek amongst the buzz of rainforest sounds, the ultimate reward is to spot an elusive platypus; or follow the rainforest trails on the waterfall walk. The Mullunburra people have lived in the forest for many thousands of years and Aboriginal guides and interactive centres explain their culture and traditions. With prior arrangement Jon Nott will take guided bird & nature walks. Rose Gums is advanced accredited und the Eco Certification program. The property was degraded dairy farm when the Notts bought it in 1994. They have since planted of 20,000 trees and still spend much of their time fighting weeds and planning further reforestation.
