Flanked by the spectacular Zuurberg Mountains, River Bend Country Lodge is situated in the Greater Addo Elephant National Park about 50 minutes drive from Port Elizabeth.

The colonial-style lodge consists of 4 Luxury suites, 3 Executive suites and one luxurious Honeymoon suite.  All suites are spacious and beautifully decorated with elegant furnishings and quality fabrics.  All rooms are fully en-suite.  The luxury suites have interconnecting rooms and are ideal for families, the Executive suites have private outdoor showers and secluded verandahs, and the honeymoon suite has an outdoor shower, a secluded verandah and a private plunge pool.

The suites are surrounded by immaculate mature gardens, brimming with lush plants and colourful flowers.  There are roomy lounges and verandahs for reading or dozing, a dining room, and a secluded swimming pool in the gardens.  See also River Bend Long Hope Villa -  for sole use.

All rooms have open views across immense tracts of bushveld with game grazing in the distance.  A waterhole and elephant hollow have been created in front of the dining room and sunset verandah for guests to enjoy wonderful elephant sightings while sipping a sundowner drink.  The area is malaria-free, and there are many other interesting places to see nearby.  The reserve holds a good variety of game and in particular the big five proving spectacular game viewing from 4x4 vehicles with informative game rangers.

FACILITIES 
The cuisine at River Bend is an inspired blend of the best from around the world with fine wines carefully selected to complement your meals.   Breakfasts may be enjoyed either in the dining area or in your bedroom.   Lunch is an informal occasion around the pool or on the verandah, or picnic baskets may be ordered.  A good selection of children's meals is also available.

The eight garden suites meander alongside winding brick paths, lined with abundantly planted beds, and are a combination of old-fashioned luxury and modern convenience.  All the suites are air conditioned and equipped with ceiling fans, electronic safes, mini bar, satellite TV, hair dryer and bathroom en suite with bath and shower.  Adjoining cottages can be used as family suites.  Accommodation is provided on the basis of  two safari activities, arrival drinks and drinks on game drives, all meals, a daily treatment in the Vitality Studio (not applicable to the Winter Special rate) and Park fees. 

Activities

Game drives in open vehicles with a ranger seeking the Big Five (elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo and leopard) and numerous antelope species. Wonderful sunsets over the distant Cocks Comb mountains, exceptional bird watching, either on a walk or from your own private verandah overlooking the veld.  Sip a drink while lazing at the pool or relax round the log fire in the library whilst browsing through the Lodge's collection of books, magazines and newspapers.  Other activities include: Guided walks, swimming pool, vitality studio/spa, citrus tours, picnics, visits to the River Bend Wildlife Centre to interact with orphaned animals and learn about endangered species breeding programmes.

Children and families

Excellent family accommodation is available consisting of 2 adjoining cottages sleeping a maximum of 4. Children are very welcome at River Bend. Babysitters are available and there is a special children's area equipped with entertainment activities. Children may go on game drives in the predators area subject to the the rangers discretion, alternative game drives are available. Where possible families are given a personal ranger and their own game vehicle – depending on the occupancy of the lodge. Families with young children are taken to the private Intsomi reserve where there are no predators, which is much safer, and where extra activities such as bush walks and tracking are conducted to keep the young entertained.

A maximum of two children under 12 years of age can share with the parents. The interleading rooms are ideal for families. Children aged 12 and over will be accommodated in their own room.

Activities can be tailored to suit the children’s requirement such as
- Children’s Tracking course: Camping with rangers on the private Intsomi Reserve, learning about basic survival skills, tracking animals,  basic astronomy and edible plants.
- Family game drives on the concession
- Children’s play room: designed to keep the young entertained with games, toys, video’s, show-and-tell insect display, books, colouring-in books etc
- Cooking with the chef: baking cookies, pancakes etc with the head chef
- Mini treatments in the salon: painting nails, mini facials etc with the resident beautician.
- Children’s fun pack on arrival which includes colouring-in book (sketches of wildlife found in the park) with crayons, a gift and sun-cream.
