Rhino Walking Safaris offers exclusive, specially tailored walking trails through a 12,000 hectare private wilderness concession in the Kruger National Park. The concession is comprised of environmentally sensitive areas previously unexplored, and is noted as an excellent game viewing area where good sightings can be expected. Rhino Walking Safaris also has exclusive use of some of the Park's public roads for evening game drives, well after gate closing time, ensuring guests an unforgettable experience.
There are two camps. Rhino Post Safari Lodge at the southern end of the concession, consists of 8 elegant suites built using natural stone, wood, thatch and canvas, and operated on organic and recycling principles. The Lodge is set on the banks of the Mutlumuvi Riverbed, where there is a well used waterhole overlooked by the guests' lounge and swimming pool. The suites are on raised wooden decks overlooking the riverbed, and have an open-plan style with a fully ensuite bathroom including a deep freestanding bath, 'his and hers' basins, a separate loo and an outdoor shower. Plains Camp, at the heart of the concession, is built in an authentic pioneer tradition and consists of 4 luxury tents sheltered by an acacia knobthorn thicket. The tents have full ensuite facilities, hot running water, electric lighting and overhead fans. The camp has a mess tent and a comfortable guests' lounge on a wooden deck, and a plunge pool with a view over the plain. At the Safari Lodge, game activities are centred on 4x4 game drives with game walks nearer to the lodge. At Plains Camp, 3 or 4-hour game walks are arranged early each morning tracing rhino trails and elephant paths, followed by a game drive with further walking in the late afternoon. Both camps offer 4x4 night game drives. To preserve the wilderness concession, there is no off-road driving. Both camps also offer the opportunity to walk to sleep-outs. This is the only location in the Park where this accommodation is available and needs to be booked in advance (please ask for details).| Style | Traditional style safari camps | | Air/Con | No | | Dining | Yes | | Children | Under 12s not allowed at Plains Camp or on sleepouts but allowed at Rhino Post.
