Responsible Travel
At Time for Travel we recognise the importance of tourism in the economy of the communities that we visit. We always try to use services that maximise this economic benefit to both local people and local businesses. This ensures that we minimise the environmental and social impact that our holidays have abroad. In practice this means: - We prefer and recommend rurally based, ecologically friendly hotels/lodges/camps where at all possible.
- We also expect local suppliers to meet our standards, with particular consideration for the environment.
- We always favour lodges/camps/hotels that have an environmental policy in place. This might include such issues as environmentally friendly foul water treatment, or raising guests’ awareness of water and electricity usage during their stay, for example by re-using towels.
- We ensure that our services and ground operators respect unique cultures and local traditions in the destination countries.
- We encourage all our clients to be aware of the impact their holiday may have on their destination and provide information on local customs, beliefs, sensitivity to photography and dress code.
- We ensure that all guides and staff are paid fairly. We provide all travellers with advice on suitable tipping, which varies widely across all our destinations.
- By arranging tailor made trips we are able to minimise the impact on the local culture and resources.
Our Responsible Travel commitment includes:
Overseas- using small locally owned hotels where possible, rather than large chain hotels owned by offshore companies. This reduces the impact on the local wildlife and natural environments, and ensures that as much tourist revenue as possible is retained in the host district/country
- using locally owned ground agents where possible, so that the local economy benefits and environmental awareness is enhanced
- using local guides and drivers at all times
- supporting community and local educational projects
- supporting wildlife conservation foundations and trusts
At Home - reducing landfill and recycling all our office waste
- turning off all our computers, printers and routers at night to minimise our electricity consumption
- not printing brochures yearly, thus minimising wasted brochure production
- buying fair trade tea and coffee and environmentally friendly cleaning products for the office
Climate Care Your holiday flight will have a negative environmental effect. Aeroplanes travel in the upper atmosphere and release greenhouse-gas emissions which contribute to global warming. Climate Care is an organisation which enables you to repair the damage. Your payment will fund projects that reduce emissions by the same amount that your individual share of the flight creates, making your presence ``climate neutral.'' Climate Care does this by funding renewable-energy projects or reforestation which either reduce emissions at source or absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The work of Climate Care is monitored by a non-government environmental committee, including members such as the World Wildlife Fund and Forum for the Future. Find out how much your flight adds to global warming and how much it costs to offset. Then you can be confident in the belief that your journey is not adding to global warming.
Operating in this way, we aim to maximise the positive impact of every trip we arrange.
Our aim is to preserve the sustainability of our destinations for future generations without compromising the quality of our trips.
