Pumulani, Lake Malawi

Recommended

Pumulani is an exclusive beach lodge on the protected shores of Lake Malawi.  It is the only luxury accommodation set within Lake Malawi National Park - a World Heritage Site.  The shoreline is punctuated by islands, bays and large granite boulders, and the clear blue water contains hundreds of species of fish, including rare and colourful cichlids.

The accommodation consists of ten individually-designed villas spread out along a lush hillside overlooking the lake. Their distinctive grass roofs reflect the heat of the African sun while the simple and elegant interiors ensure comfort and privacy. The villas vary in size and shape but each has a large bedroom, a comfortable sitting area and a well equipped bathroom with bathtub, double shower and twin sinks. The bedrooms open out onto private decking where guests can enjoy the morning sun, while the lounge areas have sliding doors that give access to a private deck with stunning lake views.

All meals and drinks are included in the tariff and the cuisine is international in character, taking advantage of fresh local ingredients. There is an extensive breakfast menu, while lunch is made up of light, tasty dishes including a variety of salads, meat and fresh fish. At sunset there are snacks and drinks followed by a sumptuous three-course dinner. In addition there is a lakeside bar serving light snacks and drinks, also included in the tariff.

Lake Malawi combines perfectly with a safari holiday in the game parks of Zambia, Tanzania or Malawi itself.  Along the lakeshore guests can experience traditional village life and gaze on mile after mile of perfect sandy beaches, and the lake itself is particularly inviting. The clarity of the water and the great abundance of marine life make it ideal for snorkelling and diving, while the absence of currents ensures it is wonderful for swimming, sailing, kayaking and watersports. Many visitors find a few days unwinding at the lake is the perfect way to end their holiday in Africa.
