Pumba Private Game Reserve is situated in the heart of the Eastern Cape's malaria-free game viewing region, covering an area of 6,000 hectares and including 5 separate ecosystems.  The vegetation is a mixture of dense valley bushveld and grassland, supporting populations of both elephant and plains game.  The reserve contains the "Big 5" as well as giraffe, 22 species of antelope and other small game, and more than 300 bird species.  There is a separate adjoining reserve for the Pumba White Lions.  There are two lodges on the reserve. Pumba Water Lodge overlooks Lake Kariega, a natural water hole, and offers stunning views of the wilderness and water from every vantage point. Accommodation is in 12 stone walled, thatched cottages, each offering a private setting with a view of the lake. The cottages open up onto private timber decks with outside showers and plunge pools. The bathrooms offer under floor heating, deep free-standing tubs, double basins, terry-towel bathrobes and luxury appointments. Air-conditioning, earthernware fireplaces and fine linen ensure absolute comfort. Some of the cottages will sleep one or two children as well as adults. The Main Lodge contains a comfortable bar (where local beers, ciders, soft drinks and house wines are complimentary) a well stocked curio shop and a restaurant serving mouth-watering cuisine.  Meals can also be served in the boma or on the main decks or in guests rooms. Pumba Msenge Bush Lodge offers 11 thatched, glass enclosed chalets, each in its own private bush setting, giving guests the ultimate feeling and experience of an African Bush Safari. One of the chalets has two bedrooms, the rest have one but have plenty of space for an extra child's bed.  All chalets are air-conditioned and have an en-suite bathroom with bath and separate indoor and outdoor showers, separate W/C, twin vanities, heated towel rails and a private dressing room.  For cooler evenings there is heating and a fireplace. The chalets have their own plunge pool on a private game viewing deck, which overlooks a small watering hole. The Lodge also has a fully equipped mini gym and steam room, and a Wellness Centre for health and beauty treatments. At both lodges game viewing is done from special custom-made open Landrovers with elevated seating and adequate protection from the elements.  Guided foot tracking or walks are also offered for those wishing to experience a more intimate relationship with the bush and its fauna and flora.  In addition, there are game-viewing hides where guests will be escorted by an experienced game ranger who will answer any questions the guests might have about wildlife encountered.
