Pom Pom Camp, Okavango, Botswana

Recommended

Pom Pom has the style of a vintage tented safari camp of old and delights in a wonderfully amiable and nostalgic safari atmosphere.  This well known and old established camp is located in the heart of the Okavango on the head waters of the Xudum River in a private concession to the west of the Moremi Game Reserve.  The area offers great Okavango scenery with game drives, night drives, walks and mokoro (canoe) safaris as the main activities.  This is a safari camp built and designed in the style of safari camps of old, overlooking a scenic palm-fringed, waterliy-studded lagoon and under a grove of shady trees.  It is a camp for the safari traditionalist, combining scenic tranquility and idyllic beauty.

WILDLIFE
All the major predators and buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and a variety of other plains game can be seen.  If you are lucky, some of the nocturnal animals such as serval, civet and genet may be seen on night drives, which rate very high on the list of activities.  Hippo and crocodile are found in the deeper lagoons in the area.  Birding enthusiasts will enjoy sighting Pels fishing owl, African fish eagle, giant eagle owl and white backed vultures.

No. of BedroomsPom Pom has 9 large walk-in tents, with en suite showers and flush loos.  The bathrooms are enclosed, but roofless - for a true bush experience!  There is also a dedicated family suite with a secure and ensuite walk-way to a children's tent, under thatch and a honeymoon suite with an outside starlight bath.  Paraffin lamps augment the camp's electricity supply, giving a wonderfully cosy atmosphere.  The main public areas overlooking the lagoon and including the lounge, dining room and bar are under a large sweeping thatched roof,  and the camp has a swimming pool.
