Phinda Game Reserve, located between the azure waters of the Indian Ocean and the lush waterways of the Greater Saint Lucia Wetland Park, is one of the most exciting safari destinations in South Africa.  Here you can see the big five in the morning and go snorkeling with whale shark and dolphin after lunch. A classic bush and beach combination.  We like this place a lot.  Accommodation Accommodation at Phinda Vlei Lodge is in charming individual bush suites of constructed of thatch and timber. Each suite, complete with luxurious ensuite bathroom, dressing room, private plunge pool and game viewing deck, overlooks the grassy vlei where herds of grazing antelope, zebra and a dazzling variety of birdlife can be seen.This area is known for its open views and is frequented by good populations of cheetah. Wildlife The reserve is home to wide range of wildlife, including buffalo, white rhino, elephant, giraffe, lion, leopard, cheetah and hippo - and 400 species of bird. To the east of Phinda lie the warm, inviting waters of the Indian Ocean - home to dolphin, whale shark, moray eel, leatherback and loggerhead turtle. Excellent sport fishing (tag and return) for Marlin and sailfish is availalble as an exciting day excursion. The best time for sport fishing is November to May.
