Phinda Mountain Lodge, South Africa

Highly Recommended

Phinda Game Reserve, located between the azure waters of the Indian Ocean and the lush waterways of the Greater Saint Lucia Wetland Park, is one of the most exciting safari destinations in Africa.  Come face-to-face with lions and rhino after breakfast, and up close to a whale shark or battling sailfish after lunch.   Accommodation at Phinda comprises four diverse lodges: Forest Lodge, Vlei Lodge, Rock Lodge and Mountain Lodge.

The subtle combination of avant garde and ethnic décor at Phinda Mountain Lodge is inspiring... but nothing surpasses the view of the ash-blue Lebombo Mountains as they sweep down to the coastal plains.

WILDLIFE
Phinda is home to wide range of wildlife, including buffalo, white rhino, elephant, giraffe, lion, leopard, cheetah and hippo - and 400 species of bird. To the east of Phinda lie the warm, inviting waters of the Indian Ocean - home to dolphin, whale shark, moray eel, leatherback and loggerhead turtle.

FACILITIES
The bar, shaded terrace and main lounge open onto cool verandahs with views of the Lebombo Mountains.  The Lodge has a shaded swimming pool, a lookout deck - built for relaxation, bird and game watching and a curio shop.  Lunch is served on the shaded terrace, patio or dining room; dinners in the dramatic open-air boma (enclosed reeded area).  Bush banquets are served in a clearing in the bush under a star-studded sky.  Phinda is also renowned for its bush breakfasts.

No. of Bedrooms

20 air-conditioned chalets with private decks and en suite bathrooms (bath and shower).  Paved pathways connect the main lodge to the chalets.
