Paperbark Camp - Jervis Bay, New South Wales

Highly Recommended

Architect designed with both the environment and guest in mind, Paperbark Camp is ecotourism at its best, managing to provide a beautiful and comfortable base from which to explore the local area and to enjoy the tranquility of this natural Australian bushland setting.  Located on the banks of the Currambene Creek, Jervis Bay, Paperbark Camp is ideal for those who love being close to nature, but appreciate lifes little luxuries, not to mention wonderful food prepared daily by the camps chefs using local produce.

Paperbark Camp has had accreditation and more recently advanced accreditation with the Ecotourism Association of Australia since opening in 1999. They continue to operate a small, low impact and niche operation that caters to those who want to get back to nature.

This region of New South Wales is a huge personal favourite!  Many assume to head north for the coast, but heading south is entirely different and much less developed.  It not only offers an opportunity to combine this unique tented camp experience with some of the world's best white sand beaches and marine life, but also to explore national parks and travel inland to the small lovely rural towns of Berry and Kangaroo Valley.

FACILITIES

StyleLuxury Tented Camp
Accommodation

Placed thoughtfully amongst the soaring eucalypts and intriguing paperbarks, the twelve safari style tents are built above the ground for your privacy and comfort and feature wrap around verandah, hardwood flooring, full insect screening and solar powered lighting.  All accommodation includes your own outdoor private en-suite, perfect for birdwatching while you unwind under a steaming hot shower, but for a camping experience like no other, spoil yourself in one of our four deluxe tents with free standing bath-with-a-view. You'll never pitch your own tent again!

Dining

The Gunyah (aboriginal for meeting place, or place of shelter) is at the heart of the camp. It is a chic space built high off the ground to enjoy the sea breeze and a wonderful position amongst the tree tops.   In Summer, the sliding doors open up for outdoor dining on the verandah, providing a bushy backdrop from which to enjoy meals and observe the goings on of our resident possums, sugar gliders and birds. In Winter, an open fire and candlelight bring warmth to the room, and cosy lounges are a perfect place after dinner.

ChildrenChildren 6 years & over are very welcome.  Great children rates from 6-13 years - available on request.
Activities / Facilities

- A stay at Paperbark Camp is a well earned chance to sleep in, enjoy a long lazy breakfast on the verandah, perhaps a couple of hours on the beach with a good book before heading back for an afternoon snooze.
- Massages are also available by prior arrangement.
- Easy walking trails that meander through paperbark, gum and mangrove forests.
- Complimentary bikes and canoes are an eco-friendly way to explore the local area.
- Discover Jervis Bay & surrounding areas.  Best beaches are Hyams & Murrays - great swimming, walking & kayaking beach.

Jervis Bay itself offers spectacular diving, snorkelling, bushwalking in the Booderee National Park, beautiful beaches, surfing, dolphin, whale and seal watching, golf and tennis. A short scenic drive away is Arthur Boyds Bundanon and local vineyards.

Location

2 ½ hrs drive (190km) south of Sydney in Jervis Bay, Shoalhaven.  Around the bay are Vincentia, Hyams Beach and Jervis Bay Village which is in the Booderee National Park.  Having a car is therefore useful for exploring the area and is certainly the easiest way of travelling to the bay.

Price RangeFrom £140.00 per person per night, including breakfast daily.   (Note : The camp is closed every Jul & Aug)
Single supplement available on request.

"If you dream of camping under the stars or sleeping in a tent with all the luxuries, then Paperbark Camp is for you, simply the best"
