Paperbark Camp - Luxury Tented Camp,
south of Sydney, Australia.

Highly Recommended

The paperbark forest that borders the Currumbene Creek gives the camp its name and your hosts, Jeremy and Irena, have created an experience where you can stay in the comfort of an African style safari tent, and enjoy the coastal scenery and wildlife that make Jervis Bay so special. Your only concern is to keep your tent zipped up so that the local possums and antechinus (a small marsupial) do not have the chance to make of with your best toiletries – they are friendly but mischievous!

Paperbark Camp - Luxury Tented Camp, south of Sydney

Jervis Bay plays host to an extraordinary diversity of wildlife: dolphins and fur seals have made this coast their home and Bowen Island is one of the northernmost rookeries for the Australian Fairy Penguin. Sitting on the point at Cape St. George on a cool clear winter’s day, watching the plumes of spray and swirls of water as Humpback and Southern Right whales head north on their annual migration is an exhilarating experience. Or if you feel more adventurous, you can view these great mammals up close from a boat.

No. of Bedrooms

The ten safari tents, built on wooden decks and furnished with locally made bush furniture, feature open-air ensuite bathrooms. The main “gunyah” is built on stilts and is the central gathering point and dining area with comfortable sofas and a small library of books and material on the local area.

Dining

Dinner is a three course menu, held in the “gunyah”, with a woodfire burning in the winter months or you can enjoy dinner in the privacy of your own tent and the surrounding bush. The camp has been built on ecological principles, with conservative usage of water and solar powered electricity.

Activities

Canoeing in the Currumbene Creek; cycling (bicycles are available at the camp); bush tucker tours into the Booderee National Park with a local aboriginal; excursions into the Morton and Budawang National Parks in the Great Dividing Range; boat charters to see the Seal colony, dolphins, penguins and coastline, or snorkelling & fishing in the bay.
