This large 4 bedroom house located in the heart of the Fort has been beautifully restored and renovated, by one of Australia's leading interior designers. Traditionally a Dutch merchant's house before being converted from a small hotel to its present situation. High ceilings added to the aircons in each bedroom ensure a cool atmosphere. Each room has antique furniture and the floors, painted white, encourage barefoot living. There is a study for reflective moments and all those post cards. A TV/DVD room ensures that when you tire of basting in the sun you can retire to watch the latest releases. A pavilion separating the garden from the pool provides the perfect place for reading or taking a break from lying in the sun. The whole width of the main house is given to an 'open plan' sitting room that looks onto the dining table at the other end. The 300 year old Fort is a World Heritage Site and is undergoing something of a renaissance. Located approx. 117kms from Colombo. the Fort was built by the Dutch in the 1600s and a lot of the architecture remains. It is quiet and easy going with a pace seemingly even more relaxed than the rest of the island. True to its reputation as the home of jewellery design in Sri Lanka the Fort and the surrounding town is full of jewellery shops. Galle is also, and to some more so, famous for its international cricket pitch. Watching a game from the top of the 300 year old Fort ramparts is to be able to enjoy cricket like you never thought possible.
