Built in 1901 next to St Mary’s Church in Blenheim, the old convent was sold, dismantled and moved to its present site, a short distance away at Rapaura, in 1994. It now provides luxury accommodation and an intimate retreat on a 20-acre estate of vineyards and olive groves in the heart of Marlborough’s wine growing area. The interior layout downstairs, full of charm and character, has remained exactly as it was 100 years ago but with essential modern conveniences such as heating and air conditioning, cleverly hidden behind old ceilings, panelling and timbered floors. A large formal dining room remains from the original accommodation, along with a library containing an ornate Kauri fireplace and a separate guest lounge. The bedrooms and a luxurious honeymoon suite have been skilfully arranged from former bedrooms, retaining many features such as stained glass and panelling. There are four upstairs as well as two downstairs rooms, all very spacious and airy, with individual character and with lovely mountain or garden views. All have queen or king-size beds and access to balconies or verandahs. The rooms have comfortable sitting areas and full en-suite bathrooms with claw-foot baths and separate shower. The honeymoon suite is on the first floor and occupies the old chapel. It is the size of a small apartment and has beautifully crafted old stained glass windows and a private balcony. It is spacious and luxuriously furnished and has a large en-suite bathroom featuring a two-person claw-foot bath, walk-in shower, double basins and superior toiletries. | Style | Elegant and casual | | Air/Con | Yes. | | Dining | No. | | Children | Yes. | | No. of Bedrooms | 7 & Honeymoon suite | | Activities | Use of neighbouring grass tennis courts.
