The Serengeti National Park is vast, stretching from the endless grass plains in the South to the woodlands in the north up to the Kenyan border. The Park is about half the size of Belgium and the Serengeti eco-system as a whole is virtually the same size as Belgium.
The Serengeti hosts the largest concentration of wildlife in the world, thought to be more than 3 million, and is home to one of the great wonders in the world, the Great Migration. Over a million Wildebeest move annually from the southern plains, where they give birth in January - March, to the Maasai Mara in the north, and back, accompanied by Zebra and other migratory mammals. Lion, cheetah, hyena, hunting dog and crocodiles make sure only the strongest survive.
Olakira Camp is a luxury mobile tented camp that moves through the Serengeti, following the Great Migration. The camp is in Ndutu from mid December until the end of March, during which time the Great Migration gives birth to the next generation. It moves up to the central Serengeti for the months of June and July when Olakira Camp can be combined with a balloon flight. From the beginning of August to the end of November, the camp is in Soit Sambu, an exclusive concession in the north-eastern part of the Serengeti eco-system. As well as game drives at all locations, when the camp is at Soit Sambu there is the added possibility of extended walking safaris with unforgettable fly camping, night drives, and interaction with the local Maasai and Wakuria cultures.
A stay in Olakira Camp combines well with a stay in our sister camp: Sayari Camp. The 2 camps offer the unique combination of top wildlife viewing in the prime areas, with a fabulous experience in the private areas, away from the crowds.
The camp consists of 8 spacious and comfortable guest tents with either large king-size or twin beds. Each tent has its own spacious private verandah overlooking the Serengeti. Bathrooms are very comfortable, having a shower, a wash basin and an environmentally friendly loo. There are two large service tents, one for the dining room and one for the lounge.
You may also stay at certain times of year in fly camps. They consist of ten foot square tents made of heavy duty mosquito mesh ensuring that you are thrillingly close to nature but apart from the bugs. The camp is light enough to move easily and strike quickly, but still retains everyday luxuries - hot showers, comfortable bedding and cold drinks served with gourmet food. Further details on request.
