Okonjima - from the Herero word meaning place of the baboons - is family run and lies nestled in the unspoilt beauty of the Omboroko Mountains, part of the Waterberg Plateau, midway between Windhoek and Etosha.
The lodge, which consists of a farmhouse and separate bungalows, is relaxed, unpretentious and has a reputation for excellent hospitality and cuisine. Okonjima is home to the AfriCat Foundation, a non-profit organisation committed to the long-term conservation of Namibia's large carnivores, especially the rescue and relocation of cheetah and leopard. As well as the cats, attractions include a small water-hole and night hide for viewing some of the area's smaller wildlife, including porcupine, honey badger and caracal.
