Offbeat Riding Safaris are a must for any keen rider. The wonderful landscape, superb game and excellent horses make this one of the most thrilling holidays to go on. All the horses are well schooled thoroughbred and thoroughbred cross. Many are home bred and are tried for polo and our best polo ponies all go on safari. Therefore they are responsive, tough and fit. You will be pleasantly surprised. Good riding ability is important and you should be comfortable at all paces and able to gallop out of trouble. You ride in big game country and you should be fit enough to ride between 4 and 6 hours a day. Most of the rides in Masailand and the Northern ranches are on fairly open plains (black cotton soil) interspersed with bush. These are short grass plains and are ideal for riding. Care must be taken for holes but canters and gallops are taken on open plains. Weight limit 210 lbs, 95 kgs.

There are various different itineraries with set departures and tailor made to suit all requirements. Generally you will move camp every other day, riding distances of 30kms or so, and the days you stay put will give you a chance to explore the area on horse back, in the vehicle or on foot. A picnic lunch is carried in saddle bags on moving days with a 1½ - 2 hour lunch stop. Some walking on foot is necessary over rough terrain. All your luggage will be moved in vehicles and the camps set up in time for your arrival. The comfortable tents have beds with linen and hot showers are available at any time. There are a minimum of 4 and maximum of 12 in a riding party on set departures. Tack: English. Various saddles, polo, wintec, French Trekking and Australian stock.
