“One of the finest in the north” was how North Bundaleer was described when the house was completed in 1901, reflecting the wealth and optimism in the pastoral industry at the time. Situated just north of the Clare valley, the country around Bundaleer has been farmed since 1841. The property at Bundaleer was the first land settled in the area, known now for its sheep and the nearby wine country of the Clare valley. As guests of Malcolm and Marianne Booth, your stay at North Bundaleer takes you back to an era of wealth and luxury no longer seen in rural Australia. Malcolm and Marianne have restored the house to its former glory and with an attention to detail and history that has earned them widespread recognition. From the ballroom (no longer in regular use!) to the library and the original William Morris décor in one of the four guest bedrooms, North Bundaleer is one of the very few federation homesteads in Australia to survive in its original style.
Hosts: Malcolm and Marianne Booth | No. of Bedrooms | The African Room, The William Morris Room, The Blue Room and The ‘Red’ Room have been individually restored to their former and traditional glory, with original and antique furnishings. The Red Room has its own sitting room ensuite where guests can be served dinner in the privacy of their own room, and the bathroom housed in the adjoining conservatory. | | Dining | Guests can chose from a variety of areas to relax in: from the more formal and ornately decorated drawing room to the smaller more private library with log fire or the verandah in front of the house. Breakfast is served either on the verandah or next to the kitchen. Dinner is hosted by Malcolm and Marianne in the formal dining room or can be taken privately by guests in the Red Room. Marianne is an outstanding cook and the food is delicious often complemented by dry Riesling wines of the nearby Clare valley. | | Activities | The vineyards of the Clare valley are just 40 minutes away, and can include lunch at one of the excellent vineyard restaurants, or a visit to Martindale Hall, a nineteenth century Georgian mansion, or the rurally English village of Mintaro. Sevenhill boasts the magnificent St.Aloysius church, as well as an excellent vineyard run by the monks. The old mining town of Burra is also close by and provides an insight into the history of settlement and success in what remains a beautiful and unspoilt part of the country. We recommend this property. |
