Mwaleshi Camp, North Luangwa National Park, Zambia

Recommended

Mwaleshi Camp, situated in the North Luangwa National Park, is a must for those who appreciate walking in really remote game areas and staying in simple comfortable rustic camps.

Mwaleshi River and Camp

This seasonal bush camp, constructed of grass and pole cottages, is  set up on a very scenic stretch of the Mwaleshi River, a clear water perennial stream feeding the main Luangwa.  Camp staff prepare delicious food and you will be accompanied by a guide and game scout on all safaris.

The camp is in the heart of an area legendary for its abundant wildlife and, in particular, a large population of lion.  The main activities are escorted walking safaris.

TRANSFER
Mwaleshi is accessible by two airstrips: Waka Waka (3 hours by road from Mwaleshi) and Luelo (2 hours by road from Mwaleshi).  Road transfers (6 hours) between Tafika and Mwaleshi are discouraged but if necessary can be arranged. It is better to cross the Luangwa by boat and walk in....perfect!

No. of BedroomsThere is no electricity in camp. The accommodation is comfortable reeded huts, each has its own en suite facilities with bucket showers with views across the river. This is a small and very hospitable camp set in a gorgeous area ideal for walking safaris.
ActivitiesThere are few roads and, whilst it is possible to drive along the Mwaleshi flood plain, most of the game viewing is on foot - with an armed escort.  All safaris are led by very experienced guides -  dedicated conservationists with a special talent for sharing their love of the bush with others.  A maximum of 6 persons per safari are accepted (8 persons if they form one group).  Safaris operate from mid June to end October
