Mnemba Island lies two kms off the north-east coast of Zanzibar - a 20-minute cruise in a traditional 16 foot flat-bottomed boat. This tiny and totally unspoilt island is surrounded by a pristine beach with white powdery sand and is generally regarded as one of the world's most special and romantic island retreats. A protection zone surrounds the island, conserving magnificent coral reefs where giant turtles, ghost crabs and spectacular tropical fish drift through the lagoons. Fresh, delicate sea breezes waft through Mnemba Lodge, lending a castaway air to the entire island. The service and staff at Mnemba are of the highest quality, as is the food.

DINING AT MNEMBA Lunch is usually served buffet style or on large wooden platters adorned with delicious African Mezze (fingerfood). Dinner is served in the dining area or alfresco on the beach - a table is placed under the stars, where you dine with the waves gently lapping at your feet. You may also dine privately on the verandah of your cottage.

| No. of Bedrooms | 10 en suite reeded cottages, bordered on three sides by tropical beech forest, and overlooking the beach and coral reef. The cottages are very private, each with en-suite bathrooms and a private terrace spilling on to the beach. The construction allows cooling sea breezes to move through the bungalow and, assisted by overhead fans, the cottages remain cool all day. | | Activities | The snorkelling and scuba diving (the lodge has its own diving school) in the clear, calm seas around Mnemba is spectacular. A valid diving certificate is needed. Equipment is provided. Other water-based activities include deep-sea fishing, windsurfing, kayaking and swimming directly from the beach. On land, choose between bird-watching, walking or simply suntanning. Sightseeing in the ancient "Spice Island" of Zanzibar - preferably at the beginning or the end of your visit to Mnemba. |
