The Marine Hotel has one of the best seaside locations in South Africa Africa, perched on the cliff's edge in Hermanus which has become known as one of the best land-based whale-watching areas in the world. You can actually spot the whales from your bedroom window, whilst you are having breakfast or relax by the pool and wait for the toll of the Whale Spotters bell.  (Southern Wright Whales arrive in June and stay through to late November and sometimes well in to December)  The hotel is exquisite and one of our favourit places to stay.   Stroll along the cliff hugging path to the nearby golf club and view the miles of white sandy beach beyond, and watch the whales only a few metres from the cliffs. The sparkling courtyard pool might beckon, perfect for catching some African sun or spend some time in the Orangery and Reading Room, perfect for quiet contemplation or planning an outing to the many excellent attractions nearby. The hotel is within easy reach of some excellent golf courses, a good choice of vineyards, penguin, seal and marine bird colonies and many other points of interest. The area is also know for its fine fynbos plant kingdom which flowers in spring (September to November) and for which we recommend you take a guide( and a picnic) who will show you the beautiful coastline and explain this rare and unique biome.
