The Kafue, Africa's largest National Park, protects a variety of habitats through which flow a series of unique rivers. The Kafue and the Lunga river are wide, clear and slow flowing rivers, bordered by narrow bands of riverine forest. Remote and unexplored, this park offers excellent viewing of a wide variety of mammal and bird species. Lunga River Lodge, situated along the beautiful river banks under shady hardwoods, is truly remote yet provides all the home comforts in well-decorated thatched chalets. Known for its excellent food and a well stocked wine cellar, the lodge is a place to relax in a beautiful and tranquil setting surrounded by Africa's wildlife. WILDLIFE SAFARIS The park is home to over 55 mammal species including 20 antelope and 6 cat species. Interesting regular sightings are Puku, Sable, Roan, Lichtenstein's hartebeest, Defassa waterbuck, serval and lion. Pangolin, aardvark and wild dog are spotted occasionally. Many of the 440 bird listed for the Park can be seen including 6 bee-eaters, 9 kingfishers, 14 egrets and herons 5 rollers. Special spots at Lunga include: African Finfoot, Bohm's bee-eater, half-collared kingfisher, Long-toed plover, Black-backed Barbet, Sooty chat, Lesser Jacana, Lady Ross's and Shallow's louries.
