Loisaba, Laikipia, Kenya

Highly Recommended

The Loisaba Wilderness - 150 sq kms of privately managed wildlife conservancy on the edge of the Laikipia plateau, 100 kms north of Mount Kenya.

The wilderness is a haven for more than 250 species of birds and 50+ species of mammal.  Elephants, buffalo, Grevy zebra and greater kudu abound.  The area is also rapidly gaining a reputation for the big cats.  Even wild dogs, thought for many years to be extinct in the region, are once again being sighted.

No. of BedroomsThe Lodge - the stone, cedar and thatch lodge is perched high on the edge of the plateau looking south towards Mount Kenya.  Each room has a private deck cantilevered with fantastic views.
The Star Beds - located in one of the eastern valleys overlooking a large water area.  Each comprises a raised platform,  semi-covered with a thatched roof: you can sleep under the stars or under the roof.  There are 2 double sleeping platforms (1-3 people) and one large family platform (4 people), each with a flush loo and drum shower.
Loisaba Cottage - built on the edge of the escarpment, self-contained and exclusive, has its own staff, game-drive vehicle and cliff-top swimming pool.   Comprises 2 Bedrooms - 1 double and 1 twin/double - both with en suite bathrooms with bath and shower.
The 'Lookout' is inconspicuously nestled in an outcrop of rocks in the valley below the lodge and provides a rare opportunity to spend time with animals at very close quarters.  Comfortably furnished and with a lavatory, it can accommodate up to four people overnight.
