One of Kenya's original ranches, Lewa Wilderness (formerly Lewa Downs) has been the Craig family home since 1924 when the Craig grandparents came from England and began raising cattle here. Now incorporated in the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, which includes Anna Merz's highly respected Ngare Sergoi Rhino Sanctuary, the area is committed to the conservation of wildlife and the diverse habitats found on these northern slopes of Mt. Kenya, as well as to benefit the local community by providing employment, schools and clinics.
You may go on game walks, on horseback expeditions, or on day and night drives in our custom four-wheel drive vehicles. The horses are well trained and patient, so even novice riders may experience the very close encounters that are possible only from horseback - sometimes you can almost touch a giraffe! The great glory of Lewa is the space, the privacy and the gorgeous country.
WILDLIFE This is one of the very few places in the world where you will see such a remarkable variety of animals interacting with their peers in their natural habitat. Experienced naturalist guides enjoy sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm with guests.
