The perfect add-on to an itinerary featuring Cape Town and the Garden Route, and just two hours drive from Port Elizabeth, Kwandwe Private Game Reserve is located in the beautiful and historically rich Eastern Cape. The region is steeped in history and culture stretching back to the San and Khoi peoples, whose legacy of rock paintings, artefacts and stone tools are of great importance. The touch of the 1820 Settlers is everywhere - from the beautiful architecture and art in towns like Grahamstown and Fort Beaufort to the colonial furniture and fittings that were brought to manor houses. The Kwandwe reserve covers 54,362 acres of exclusive, malaria-free wilderness and features 30 km of privately owned river frontage of the Great Fish River. There are four separate lodges on the reserve, all with a highly distinctive character and all offering the same exceptional levels of service and welcome. (See also Great Fish River Lodge, Uplands Homestead and Ecca Lodge).
Set in a beautiful location overlooking the Fish river and afromontane forests, Melton Manor is a sole-use safari villa with four ensuite bedrooms. Combining the very best elements of Kwandwe's other lodges, this is a contemporary Frontier farmhouse with added warmth and humour. This spacious u-shaped lodge is characterised by high ceilings and deep, cool verandas, each overlooking the central courtyard and its large swimming pool. The bedrooms each have their own spacious bathroom and innovative “butler hatches” for discreet room service.
The elegant and simple design incorporates earthy, organic finishes, deep inviting sofas, gorgeous Nguni rugs, dramatic photography, and celebrates the style of early frontier days. The interactive kitchen is a cosy place where guests can muck in with Melton Manor's expert chef.
The Lodge has its own private open safari vehicle for morning, afternoon/evening and night game drives. Also available are guided bushwalks, bush sundowners and picnics on the Reserve, fishing, rhino and buffalo tracking, archaeological, battlefield and historical tours to Grahamstown and surroundings.
