Kigongoni Lodge is located amidst natural forest on an historic 70-acre coffee farm 10kms east of  Arusha and is within easy driving distance of both Kilimanjaro and Arusha airports.  Sitting on a hilltop with lush gardens, and tucked between old indigenous trees, this exclusive lodge offers breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro and Mt Meru.  Kigongoni has strong links with the local community and the lodge has been developed in harmony with, and respect for, local values, heritage and aspirations.  Staying at Kigongoni will give guests an authentic, homely experience and true sense of Tanzania, while providing an opportunity to participate in activities that help the local communities.  This is an ideal place to relax either before or after a safari. Accommodation at the Lodge consists of 18 very large thatched cottages (60 square metres) and one family room (2 separate bedrooms), all built in African styles and materials.  All cottages have a large private verandah with a view of either Mount Meru or Kilimanjaro.  In twin rooms, the single beds are 4 feet wide and in double rooms they are 8 feet square.  All are four-poster beds with large mosquito nets.  All cottages are comfortably furnished and have a fireplace, a writing and sitting area and a large bathroom area with separate shower and bathtub.  The lodge has a large lounge area and meals are taken in the dining room, outside in the boma or even in the forest.  Cuisine is European in style with distinct African elements and, whenever possible, full use is made of organically grown vegetables from the lodge's gardens.  Local produce is also included in the breakfasts. Activities offered include: swimming, nature walks through the lodge’s 70 acre forest and coffee farm, and guided village walks.  Horse riding, canoeing and day trips to Arusha Ntional Park can also be arranged upon request.
