Kicheche Camps, Masai Mara and Laikipia, Kenya

Highly Recommended

Kicheche Camps offer a superb wilderness experience living in a true canvas bush camp, utilizing sources of energy like solar power and candlelight.  The camps are all situated in wilderness areas and offer superb guiding, 4 x 4 game drives and bush walks.  Staying in a bush camp doesn't mean compromising on comfort, the food and service are first class, as are the warmth and experience of Kicheche's staff making your safari an unforgettable experience.  Rigid daily schedules are not on the agenda at Kicheche there are no hard and fast rules so guests can decide on the duration and frequency of their drives.  Picnic breakfasts, lunches and sundowners are popular options to include on game drives.

Kicheche Mara Camp
Kicheche Mara Camp is located in the Mara North Conservancy bordering the famous Masai Mara. The camp is located in a prime wildlife area and game viewing starts right from the camp itself. Access is from the Shikar airstrip, 20 minutes game drive away.  Kicheche Mara is open from June to March, avoiding the long rains around April and May. Daytime temperatures are usually warm to hot (upper 20s Centigrade) but nights can be cool.  The Masai Mara is serviced daily from Nairobi by scheduled flights (10am and 3pm).   The camp is about 4½ hours drive from Nairobi.

Kicheche Mara Camp Honeymoon Tent

The camp prides itself on offering a friendly and relaxing stay, with our hosts treating you as welcome guests, not mere travel statistics. To maintain this intimate and relaxed atmosphere there is a maximum of twenty two guests at any time. Each tent is comfortably furnished with an en-suite bathroom and flushing loo, low wattage lighting is supplied 24 hours. The majority of the tents are in secluded positions overlooking the plains and nearby hills, while others are closer together for families or friends. Triple and Quad tents (1 double & 2 single beds) are also available. The spacious Nyati tent acts as the camp lounge with comfortable seating, a library, board games, cards and local crafts.

Kicheche Bush Camp
Kicheche Bush Camp is located in the newly established Olare Orok Conservancy bordering the Masai Mara Reserve. The camp is in a prime wildlife area and game viewing area ideal to experience the wildebeest migration. T
he camp is a classic, intimate, bush camp completely unfenced, accommodating a maximum of only twelve guests, under canvas. The camp is fully hosted and run to the same impeccable standards of Kicheche Mara Camp. Spacious, fully insect-proof custom designed Selous style tents (twins or /doubles), equipped with proper beds, linen, bedside tables, luggage racks and rugs.  Bathrooms are en-suite and are equipped with a dresser, safari hot water bucket shower and flushing loos.  Most meals are taken alfresco in a clearing overlooking the plains or, in the event of bad weather, in the dining/lounge tent. This seasonal camp closes April, May & Nov. Children are accepted.

Kicheche Valley Camp
The latest addition to the Kicheche portfolio of camps in Kenya opened in July 2011, offering guests a new location from which to view some of the world's most stunning wildlife and dramatic scenery. The camp consists of only six tented suites, ensuring a personal touch, and is run by experienced hosts along with staff and guides that have all trained and worked in our other properties. Staying in the Naboisho Conservancy opens up a whole new spectacular area of the Mara to explore.

Naboisho, which in Maasai means 'coming together' is a community driven initiative to create a wildlife conservation and tourism area that supports the livelihoods of the landowners and surrounding communities. The conservancy is dedicated to empowering local communities, supporting a healthy ecosystem and promoting wildlife conservation. The area encompasses some of the most stunning terrain in the Masai Mara eco-system. The habitat of acacia woodlands, savannah grassland plains, riverine acacia forest and rocky undulating hills provide a varied habitat for browsing and grazing herbivores along with hideout thickets for most predators. With strict controls on bed density and vehicle numbers a high quality wilderness experience is assured.

Kicheche Laikipia Camp
Kicheche Laikipia Camp is situated in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, some 90,000 acres of wilderness and offers an incredibly uncrowded environment to enjoy quality game viewing. The Conservancy is home to Kenya's largest population of Black Rhino, large numbers of elephant, cheetah, lion, leopard and plentiful plains game. There are also a number of rarer Northern species such as Grevys Zebra, Jacksons Hartebeest and Beisa Oryx. The Conservancy lies on the Equator 30 minutes drive from Nanyuki airstrip and affords wonderful views of Mt Kenya, with daily flights from Nairobi.  The camp consists of six luxurious tents which are custom designed and are fully insect-proof with en-suite bathrooms equipped with a dresser, flushing toilet and hot showers. There are comfortable chairs on each verandah overlooking the plains. One tent can be converted into a triple on request. There is a spacious well furnished lounge and dining tent, although we prefer to eat alfresco if weather permits.
