Khwai River Lodge, Moremi Reserve, Botswana 

Khwai River Lodge is located eight kilometres north-west of the north gate of the Moremi Wildlife Reserve in the Okavango delta. The luxury tented camp is set under a canopy of old indigenous leadwood and fig trees and offers a commanding view of the Khwai River flood plain. This is the perfect location for observing the perennial drama of the African bushveld and the location provides excellent game viewing and birding.    Wildlife The Khwai River is part of the Okavango Delta's system.  Interestingly the lodge lies at the point where the river narrows to a stream and disappears into the sand in an area known as the Moremi. One of Africa's most majestic game reserves which contains Botswana's largest, grandest, fastest, sleekest and most beautiful game.  Waterbuck, crocodile and hippo abound and vast herds of antelope and zebra graze contentedly on the coarse grass... and where the antelope feed, the predators lion, leopard and cheetah, hyena and wild dog can also be seen. Game Viewing Activities at the camp include morning and afternoon game drives in open Land Cruisers. Night spotlight game drives and star gazing presentations are also conducted after dinner. A cultural visit to a local village can also be arranged, as well as guided safari walks along the Khwai River. For the more adventurous, full-day private game excursions are also available to the nearby Okavango Delta for a water safari. Facilities All luxury tents are housed on raised wooden platforms, offering great views, and shaded by a traditional African thatch roof. The large private decks are furnished with easy chairs and a hammock, ideal for viewing wildlife, or for enjoying a private dinner in complete privacy. The tent interiors are luxuriously appointed with such comforts as an en suite bathroom, private fully stocked mini bar, four poster bed complete with mosquito netting, as well as a discreet air conditioning. The camp has nice messing area with a covered dining room, lounge and bar area.  Other facilities include an observation deck overlooking the river , swimming pool - from the pool you can watch the pods of hippo playing in the river, gym and spa, reference library of books and videos, audio-visual facilities and a small shop. VHF and HF radio communications.  TRANSFER The camp is accessed by light aircraft to the camp's own airstrip.  The lodge is not generally accessible by road. No. of Bedrooms The 15 twin-bedded luxury tents with thatched roofs feature lavishly appointed ensuite bathrooms and dressing areas.  The tents are set on decks overlooking the Khwai River. Activities The camp offers game viewing activities in the morning and late afternoons.  These activities take place in open 4x4 safari vehicle.
