Kapani Lodge, South Luangwa, Zambia

Recommended

The Luangwa Valley is one of Africa’s prime wildlife sanctuaries, with a variety and concentration of game and birdlife that have made it world famous.  This is the landscape of the ‘Real Africa’, with herds of antelope sheltering under thorn trees, or roaming the plains, predators skulking in the shadows and primordial drama in every vale.

Kapani Lodge is a permanent camp lying on one of the Luangwa River's many ox-bow lagoons in the South Luangwa National Park.  The main chitenge houses the lounge area and bar as well as a small library of natural history books.  Brunch is served each day on the wooden deck overlooking the lagoon.  The pool is a wonderful refuge from the heat of the day.

Kapani Lodge is complemented by four walking bushcamps:  Luwi, Nsolo and Kakuli on the seasonal Luwi river, and Mchenja on the Luangwa.

WILDLIFE SAFARIS
Game viewing is in open 4 wheel drive vehicles or on foot, with activities being tailored around your requirements.  Game viewing is exceptionally good during the dry winter months of June through October.  Sightings of lion and leopard are common.  Puku, while not widely distributed in Africa, are common in the Luangwa.  With over 400 resident species, the Luangwa is a wonderful place to see birds at any time of the year.  However, during the wet months, from November to March, many migrants arrive and the Luangwa becomes a Mecca for birders.

Kapani’s four bush camps all specialise in walking safaris.  They are only open from June until November.  The camps are close enough together to enable you to walk from camp to camp in just a few hours.
