For anyone seeking a true African wilderness experience, a visit to the Ruaha National Park is essential. Although the second largest in Tanzania, the reserve is perhaps the least well-known and not subject to the tourist pressures of the better-known parks - and yet to connoisseurs it is without doubt one of the most spectacular in Africa.
The Park supports diverse animals like large elephant herds, and prides of lions, wild dog, sable and greater and lesser kudu. Together with over 450 bird species, Ruaha National Park is a wildlife haven. The camp is sited on the banks of the Jongomero Sand River in the south-western sector of Ruaha. The style is luxurious with canvas-under-thatch accommodation. The main guest areas are housed under a soaring thatch, with the bar and dining areas shaded by large acacia trees. The dining and living areas are very comfortable and offer a great vantage point from which to take in the sights and sounds of the African bush. There is a natural rock pool to cool off in. Jongomero combines well with stays at the Selous Safari Camp on the Rufiji River in the Selous Game Reserve and a relaxing break at the exclusive Ras Kutani on its own stretch of tropical beach on the Indian Ocean coast. | No. of Bedrooms | Eight large and well-appointed safari tents raised on wooden platforms under enormous thatched roofs. There is also a spacious private veranda overlooking the seasonally flooded Jongomero River. Beds are large and comfortable and each room has an en-suite bathroom with twin hand basins and a spacious shower. | | Activities | 4x4 game drives. There are magnificent Baobab forests and high populations of buffalo, lion, wild dog, and elephant in particular. From 2008 season the camp will offer game walks and walking safaris (fly camping). Minimum 16 years of age for walking activities. |
