Island Camp has been classed by thousands of visitors as their most favoured place in Kenya. Situated on an enchanted, remote island in Lake Baringo, each comfortable tent, with its own bathroom, is tucked away under the shade of spreading acacias, and separated by green lawns and natural rockeries. The views of the surrounding Rift Valley are at their most spectacular from the refreshing, clear pool situated at the pinnacle of the camp. Winding paths lead down from the pool to the informal dining and bar areas. Island Camp provides the perfect change of scene in between visiting the many national parks - a chance to relax and recuperate. IMPRESSIONS OF LAKE BARINGO "The mornings were burning, bright ultra-marine blue mountains, extreme colours, passionate sun, a glistening, a glittering lake. One moment as calm as a mirror, another as rebel as a devil. They took me on a boat ride along wild shores, up a winding river. Yes, now I remember, it was the haunting call of the fish eagle, you know that call which still inhabits me wherever I am in the four corners of the world. The flight of the kingfishers, the Malachite kingfisher, a splash of the furious colours of the rainbow in a crystal clear firmament. Every shade, every shadow, the light.. nowhere as that light...everything was filled with life. Then there was the boiling, steaming, bubbling springs, surrounded by roses, the finest of the finest wild crimson roses... Desert Roses.Yes, it was a kind of a vision, monsters, maybe crocodiles, befriended humans enjoying the waters. Golden coloured birds, tame, came to eat almost from my trembling palms, looked around...time was still. Then, when the dark shrouded the silent shores. I saw myself sewing stars, I could touch them they were so near. They were so clear. They were so bright... Fireflies, hooting owls, grumbling herons, thundering hippos, whistling curlews... whispering acacias, rustling breezes, seething waves, mysterious sounds, unknown noises...And let there be light, and there was light, and there was morning and there was evening the first day. Our dream on the island has begun..." Writer, Behnam Keryo's impression of Lake Baringo.
