Island Bush Camp, South Luangwa National Park, Zambia

Recommended

This small, personalised bush camp lies under a grove of mahogany trees on the banks of the Luangwa River in a very remote area of the southern section of the South Luangwa National Park - one of Zambia's prime game viewing areas. In this game-rich, complete solitude far away from other operators, the camp offers exclusive walking safaris. Island Bush Camp is seasonal and is open from 20 May to 1 November.

The South Luangwa National Park is a great place to discover the untouched African wilderness, and is truly one of Africa’s best hidden secrets. It is 9,050 square km in size and home to over 420 species of birds and over 60 species of mammals, including some unique to the Luangwa Valley like the Thornicroft giraffe and the Cookson wildebeest. The park is renowned for its high population of leopards, as well as large herds of elephant, and great numbers of hippo and crocodile in the river. Lions are commonly seen and prides can include up to 20 animals.

The walking safaris are a great opportunity to be at one with nature. The qualified and highly experienced safari guides and armed National Park rangers escort guests safely into the true and unspoilt African bush. The Luangwa Valley is one of the few places in Africa where it is possible to walk amongst wildlife, which allows guests to immerse themselves fully in African impressions, smells and sounds. During the walking safaris guests are provided with detailed explanations of spoors, vegetation and the ecology in general - an unmatched wildlife experience.
