Heron Island is a true coral cay right on the Great Barrier Reef. Sugar white sands, crystal clear waters and acres of brilliant coral with beautifully coloured marine life surround the island. At this World Heritage-Listed Marine National Park, all flora and fauna is protected, so the island is a nature lover's paradise with the emphasis on enjoying natural beauty. You are able to walk from your rooms straight onto the reef with its prolific marine life. Although best known for its diving, the island is also a significant nesting area for Loggerhead and Green Turtles, which you can expect to see on an evening walk around the island from December to April. It is also a major breeding site for sea birds: black noddies, muttonbirds and reef herons. It is what you do not see around Heron that makes the resort so special – no buildings above the tree line, no day-trippers; the reef experience on Heron is exclusively for resort guests
