There are 3 categories of hotel accommodation in Colombo - large and modern; rambling and colonial with restoration needed; and those with colonial charm. There are only a very few that can claim to belong to the third category but in Colombo, The Havelock Place Bungalow commands it.

Doubling as an art gallery, from which you can buy paintings, the walls are always delicately covered with the work of local artistic talent. This adds to the feeling you are not a guest with a room number but that you are staying in a friend's house a few days. Within easy reach of all the best shops and restaurants the hotel is tucked away in a quiet and 'green' cul de sac. Meals are served in the restaurant and include a selection of good local and western dishes from A la carte menu. Whilst Colombo does not feature that highly on the list of places to stay when visiting Sri Lanka we do recommend you stop in for at least one or two days.A s most flights arrive at incredibly antisocial hours we believe it sensible, and strongly advisable for you to stay your first night in Colombo and head to your eventual destination the next day. The reason for this is not only are there some shops and restaurants that you just have to visit but that the fellow road users during the day are more predictable than those at night.
Although staying the night in a city hotel can be a bore when all you want to do is get to the beach, The Havelock Place Bungalow allows you to start to unwind immediately and is a pleasure.
