The unique appeal of Funzi Keys is its unspoilt remoteness on an undeveloped island in the Indian Ocean. In particular, and because it is a private island, there are no beach hawkers and more importantly the rooms are built right on the edge of the beach, as opposed to 30m back as on the mainland. The hotel, fronted by a beach and surrounded by water, faces west offering dramatic views of the African sunset. A high degree of comfort is offered in this unparalleled location on the East African coast.

The property is owned and run by Alisandro and Claudia Torriani who's relaxed and friendly disposition permeates throughout the whole hotel. Funzi Keys life is very unstructured and you can do as little or as much as you choose. You may prefer to unwind on the wooden deck which surrounds the large free-form pool, watching the local fishing dhows sail by, where the only sound is the haunting call of the fish eagle echoing across the water. Water-sports for the more active visitor include snorkeling, wind-surfing, sailing (pico's, lasers, winsurfers and hobiecats) canoeing and water-skiing. Proximity to the Pemba Channel makes the hotel an excellent base for deep sea fishing and scuba diving which can be arranged locally. Others may choose to explore the Ramisi River to glimpse brilliant kingfishers and rare tropical birds in the mangrove coastal belt. Boats are available to see the dolphins which regularly visit Funzi Creek and sunset dhow cruises. Beach bonfire barbecues reclining on bean bags are special and stick in the memory long after you leave. Funzi now has a full time Therapist providing pedicures, manicures and massages.
