Cockatoo Hill Retreat - Daintree, Queensland

Recommended

Charming hosts, delicious meals, thatched cottages in a beautiful garden.  As guests of Carmen you will discover the gentle beauty of the rainforest further enhanced by delightful hosts and a small number of guests! Located 16kms north of the Daintree River ferry crossing and half way along the road to Cape Tribulation, this is a wonderful base from which to explore the region.

Cockatoo Hill Retreat offers accommodation in four separate thatched cottages – each with polished timber floors, a king-size bed draped in mosquito net (much more for romance than for protection!), en suite bathrooms (shower only no bath tub) and balconies with views across the rainforest towards the ocean.

The gardens are filled with bright flowering plants such as frangipani, heliconia, bougainvillea, and the lawns give way to the dark green foliage of the forest that surrounds them. Carmen brings a touch ofher French parentage to the delicious tropical breakfasts, which are shared in the main lodge. She will also be happy to recommend and arrange lunch and dinner reservations at local restaurants and book local touring – from guided forest walks to boating and horse back riding. Be sure however to allow some relaxation time and perhaps a splash in the beautiful swimming pool with its cascading waterfall and views to the horizon.

FACILITIES

StyleBoutique Retreat
Accommodation

There are four ‘tree houses’ – each with large sliding doors that open onto a private balcony. The bedroom features soft lighting and a beautiful hand crafted timber bed that is draped in mosquito netting (more for the effect than protection).  There is no air conditioning but fans are provided and the ‘houses’ have been built to catch the prevailing breezes. Facilities include a fridge with basic mini-bar and tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom has a shower, toilet and hand basin.

Dining

The accommodation is booked on a bed & breakfast basis. The continental breakfast includes a delicious and very tropical fruit salad followed by a basket of pastries and toast with home made preserves.  Lunch and dinner can be enjoyed at local restaurants and Carmen will be happy to make reservations,

Whet - near Cape Tribulation and offering friendly service and a rather global and creative menu of light meals and snacks, guests are welcome to sit outside or in the rather fun bar area.

Cafe On Sea – a nice spot for a casual lunch.
